The Blood, Sweat and Craft Beers Team – Daniel Venema

For the third year running, the Blood, Sweat, and Craft Beers running team will be lacing up to take on the 14 km’s known as the City2South. Last year, the team raised a staggering amount of money for RUOK, and this year, look to top our efforts by hitting $20,000 for beyondblue, which is an outstanding resource for people suffering from depression, anxiety, and a variety of other mental maladies.

To help you all get a better idea of who we are as a group, I’m running (pun not intentional) a segment to highlight the individuals who make up this merry little gang.

Next up, someone outside the industry, Daniel Venema!

Who are you?

I’m a 26 year old civil engineer who is currently working in eCommerce. Have been married to my wife Leesa for 2 years. Apart from beer, I love wildlife photography and snowboarding.

What’s your good beer connection?

I like it, I drink a fair bit of it, I take photos of it and post them on Instagram under the name “brewsearch”. Other than that, I’m lucky enough to have a friend who works in the industry and has introduced me to the rest of the team.

What’s your running experience?

Before signing up for this, it had probably been about 10 years since I’d deliberately run anywhere. I’m pretty unfit, but I managed my first 10km last weekend so I’m pretty happy with my progress!

Beyondblue: What does it mean to you?

As someone who does some volunteer work with high school youth (and also just as a person that has met other people), it is easy to see that depression, anxiety and mental health issues in general are becoming more and more prevalent in our society. Having also had some first-hand experience with these things, I feel pretty strongly about them.
